It is a driving force for the regional economy as it is present in many local industries: building, naval and aeronautics construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing and food production, automotive industry.

In the field of materials, you can find in Western France: a Competitive cluster for materials, major manufacturers of metal components in many industries, a technical center for mechanical industries, research and training centers.
The region is leading innovative French projects in the "mechanics and machine tools" sector and is among the top regions for the publication of patents in the "machines, mechanics, transport and industrial processes" sector.

A competitive cluster

pole EMC2

The EMC² competitive cluster for materials combines differents sections of the mechanics industry in the implementation of metallic and composite materials in industry.

Its aim is to create synergy between groups of international stature, small and medium enterprises, research laboratories and private and public training centres, as well as any industrial collaboration through the organisation of mutually organised R&D projects.

It comprises 80 SMEs/SMIs, 50 laboratories, training centres and economic development organisations. Around 30 projects are certified and financed each year.

A technical center for mechanical industries

cetim

The CETIM (Technical center for mechanical industries) conducts technological monitoring and cross-sector R&D to boost competitiveness. It works on multidisciplinary projects: Failure analysis and assessment, Dimensioning - Simulation - Software, Metrologic expertises - Calibration, Mechanical component fatigue, Training and skills management, Noise and vibration engineering, Non-destructive testing and measurement engineering, Polymer and composite materials engineering, Machinery and controls,Metal and surface materials, Sustainable Industrial Performance, Fluid and flow mechanics, Sealing technology
